Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Chaz Ryan developed a love for the arts at an early age. Fascinated by the music and magic of Michael Jackson, he began to imitate his dancing in front of the television wearing his own set of penny loafers, white socks, and high water pants. He had no clue that this would foreshadow the rest of his life.
At 15 years old, he began dancing at with the Judah Generation dancers of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Only going to a rehearsal to “try it out”, he quickly fell in love with the art of movement, especially hip hop. As his love grew, he began to take it more seriously pursuing the craft at Nashville School of the Arts. It was there that he trained in various styles such as Modern, African, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Ballet. While attending NSA, he took the choreography class during his senior year and really began to push as a choreographer.
Upon graduating from high school, he attended Tennessee State University while he continued to dance under the leadership and instruction of Stacie Flood-Popp. In 2010, he joined Found Movement Group, and went on to be a lead dancer in three of the company’s biggest shows. He also began directing his own company by the name of #Snatched releasing concept videos and doing performances around Nashville.
In 2013, after graduating from Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Mass Communications concentrating in Integrated Marketing he made the BIG move to Los Angeles, California to pursue his career as a professional dancer and choreographer. He quickly acquired a work-study scholarship at the world famous Millennium Dance Complex where he trained under the likes of George Jones Jr., Brian & Scott Nicholson, Karon Lynn, J.R. Taylor, Kenya Clay, Donyelle Jones, Rhapsody James, and more. Training heavily in his craft, his work ethic quickly opened up many networking opportunities where he received the opportunities to perform under the creative direction of Travis Payne, WilldaBeast, Kenya Clay, Sho-Tyme, and more.
He returned to Nashville with a plethora of experience and training under his belt. He is now choreographing for award winning studios across the Middle Tennessee area, building his brand of ChazRyanMVMNT which is the umbrella for all of his creative endeavors, and doing artist development for up and coming artists in Nashville. His love for his students and the art form is what fuels his passion. He lives everyday to share the art and magic of movement in hopes of inspiring the next generation to become greater.
